I'm Mx. Kim, the Library Clerk here at Riverview STEM Academy.

I'm here to support students, staff, and families. 

While my work days are Tues/Thurs/Fri, I typically check email daily. I endeavor to reply within 2 business days. Thank you for your understanding.

DONATIONS: I often get asked if I accept book donations. Yes, I do! I am always happy to accept good-condition, age-appropriate books. But, I do not promise that they will make it into our circulating collection. That said, any book I reject for the collection will be added to my stash of books to give away during our four annual Free Book Weeks. Because every book deserves a loving home. <3   

   

About Mx. Kim

My family moved to Rancho Cordova in 1989 and I've been here ever since. I attended Cordova Gardens Elementary, was independently homeschooled for three years, returned to public school for Middle (Mills) and early high school (Cordova High), and finally graduated from the Walnutwood Independent Study Program. While the experience was rough at times, I am so grateful now to have had such varied insights into different educational environments. 

I completed my general education at Sacramento City College before transferring to Sacramento State University (CSUS), where I received my BA in Sociology. I then went on to complete my Master's in Library and Information Science (MLIS) through San Jose State University's (CSU) distance learning program. 

Before joining the amazing and award-winning team here at Riverview STEM Academy in 2018, I had the honor to serve a variety of populations under a variety of job titles at: California State Archives, Lavender Library, Sacramento City College Library, and Sacramento Public Library. 

I have too many cats, I insist on camping in a redwood forest at least once a year, and I get excited about discussing station wagons.

I believe that the role of information scientists is to provide access to information; to connect people to ideas. I believe that people have more similarities than differences, but it isn't always easy to see those similarities. I've found that the easiest paths to social connection are through written stories, food, and music (because really, food and music are stories, too). 

So, don't be alarmed if your student tells you about a food-related holiday or "weird" music they heard at school... yep, that was probably me!
